Privacy Policy — Class Attendance

Information We Collect

We collect the following information when you use Class Attendance:

Account & profile information: - Email address and password (for sign-in) - Name and role (teacher or student) - Student ID or roll number (optional, for students)

Attendance & classroom verification: - Device identifier (to prevent duplicate check-ins from the same phone) - Attendance records (session, timestamp, and whether attendance was marked manually by a teacher) - Bluetooth proximity verification tokens (temporary codes scanned near the teacher's device to confirm you are in the classroom)

Biometric authentication: - Fingerprint or face unlock may be requested on your device before marking attendance. Biometric data is processed only by your phone's operating system and is never sent to our servers.

We do not sell your personal information.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely to operate the attendance system:

- Authenticate teachers and students - Manage courses, enrollments, and class sessions - Record and display attendance for enrolled courses - Verify classroom presence using Bluetooth beacon tokens - Prevent fraudulent or duplicate attendance from the same device - Allow teachers to view attendance for their own sessions and mark students manually when needed

We do not use your data for advertising or to train AI models.

Bluetooth & Device Permissions

Class Attendance uses Bluetooth to verify that students are physically present in the classroom:

- Teachers' devices broadcast a short-lived rotating beacon during an active session - Students' devices scan for this beacon when marking attendance - Only a derived verification token is sent to our servers — not raw Bluetooth scan logs

The app may also request device biometric unlock and network access. Location permission may be declared for device compatibility; classroom verification is performed via Bluetooth, not GPS tracking.

Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely on Supabase (hosted on AWS):

- All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) - Database access is protected by Row Level Security — users can only access data they are authorized to see - Teachers can view attendance and enrollments for their own courses; students can view their own attendance history - Authentication is handled via Supabase Auth

Third-Party Services

We use the following services to operate Class Attendance:

- Supabase: Authentication, database, and real-time updates

These services process data only as necessary to provide the app's functionality.

Your Rights (DPDPA 2023)

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the right to:

- Access: View your profile and attendance history in the app - Correction: Update your name or student ID via the profile screen - Erasure: Request deletion of your account and associated data - Withdraw Consent: Stop using the app; contact us to delete your account

Data Retention

We retain your data only as long as necessary:

- Account and profile data: Until you request deletion - Attendance records: For the academic term or as required by your institution's policy - Offline attendance queue entries: Stored locally on your device until synced, then removed from the queue

Upon account deletion, your profile and personal data will be removed from our servers. Attendance records may be retained in anonymized or aggregated form where required for institutional records.

Children's Privacy

Class Attendance is intended for use by students and teachers in educational institutions. If you are under 18, use the app only with the knowledge and consent of your school or college. If you believe a minor's data was collected without appropriate consent, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. Significant changes will be noted on this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
